Aquatic Therapy

Valerie M
cGrath, P.T., Director

Aquatic Therapy is quickly becoming the treatment modality of choice for a wide variety of orthopedic and neurologic conditions. Water’s inherent characteristics of buoyancy, viscosity, and hydrostatic pressure as well as sound, tem perature, and tactile sensations combine to facilitate the therapeutic process. Through the proper application of Aquatic Therapy many patients receive a shorter course of care with excellent outcomes. One of the main goals of Aquatic Therapy is progressive stabilization of the involved area of injury or dysfunction. The water environment adds new capabilities to traditional methods.

Early intervention is often possible due to the soothing effects of the water creating a pain reducing environment and a subsequent faster transition to land based rehabilitation techniques.
